TU students to get Rs 100,000 medical expenses



KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan University (TU) has increased the amount of medical expenses being given to its students by a hundred percent beginning from the current fiscal year.

Now, students of TU constitute campuses can claim up to Rs 100 thousand each as medical expenses, said TU registrar Dilliram Upreti. Prior to this, its size was Rs 50 thousand.

The facility is available from the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Maharajgunj, Gandaki Medical College Teaching Hospital Pokhara, Dhawalagiri Zonal Hospital Baglung, State Hospital Surkhet and Bheri Zonal Hospital Nepalgunj.

The TU has its agreement with the above-mentioned health institutions for the facility.

As per the agreement, any eligible student need not pay for treatment procedures which include pathology test and bed charges up to Rs 100 thousand from these five hospitals.

According to TU Senate member and RR Campus Free Students Union president Tapendra Bahadur Shahi, a recommendation letter from the respective campus is required to claim the facility. He said they have demanded the entire treatment free.

The TU charges each student Rs 500 under the heading of medical expenses. The fund was established in the fiscal year 2073-75 BS (2016-17).
