UK PM candidate Gove admits to taking drug

LONDON: Michael Gove, a strong contender for the post of next British Prime Minister, admitted to taking cocaine (a drug) at social gatherings when he was a young journalist. He said, ‘he has deep regrets about taking the drug on several occasions. It was a mistake. I look back and I think I wish I hadn’t done that.’

‘It was 20 years ago and yes, it was a mistake. But I don’t believe that past mistakes disqualify you,’ he added. The revelation comes when the contest to replace May, who stepped down as leader of the governing Conservatives on Friday, is gathering pace. (Agencies)
