CHAUTARA: The District Administration Office of Sindhupalchwork has issued an indefinite prohibitory order at Ambathan, Sindhu, Gyalthum Audit camp and Melamchi Drinking Water Project area to be effective from Friday evening in view of the agitation of the local contractors and laborers.

With the prohibitory order in place, mobility of more than five persons at a time has been banned in these areas.

Chief District Officer Goma Devi Chemjong informed that the prohibitory order was issued in line with Section 6 of the Local Government Administration Act 2028 after the local contractors and laborers launched agitation obstructing the activities of the national pride project.

The local contractors and laborers had begun agitation since Wednesday demanding remuneration and compensation of the construction tools after the Italian contractor CMC quit the project contract.

Some workers were injured as the police shot teargas shells and rubber bullets on Thursday. Following the departure of the CMC, the government has tasked the Chinese company Sino Hydro for the construction of the remaining portion of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project.
