Govt for media-friendly atmosphere: Foreign Minister Gyawali



KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, has said the government was for the media-friendly atmosphere. At a time when various issues were raised on the Media Council Bill, Foreign Minister Gyawali reiterated that government was clearly for the credibility, transparency and professionalism of media.

Inaugurating the Nepal Chapter of World Communicators’ Council and South Asia Media Conference here today, the Foreign Minister viewed that media, being the representative of people’s voice, should have the contents that serve national welfare, social justice and equality.

He stressed on a collective discussion on various issues of media to reach a common conclusion. The Minister, however, said the growing divided debate on media issues was challenging.

Gyawali reminded that Nepal had moved towards economic prosperity after completing political transition, so positive role was sought from media. He further suggested the media persons that they linked the professionalism with freedom of expression and speech.

According to him, all sides’ cooperation and collaboration was a must for making the Visit Nepal Year 2020 successful.
