Govt’s priority to end VAW: Minister Thapa

KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen, Thammaya Thapa today said that the government was working towards reducing instances of violence against women (VAW), end the system of dowry and the chhaupadi practice.

Responding to lawmakers’ queries on several topics under the Appropriation Bill-2076 in today’s meeting of the National Assembly (NA), she said that the Ministry has brought programs to rescue the street children and to rehabilitate them.

Stating that her ministry has initiated activities towards ending all forms of discrimination against women, Minister Thapa informed that the ministry has been working to make 2076 BS as the year for a campaign against violence against women.

According to her, her ministry is planning to establish a fund against human trafficking and gender-based violence in all the 753 local levels in the coming fiscal year.
