EC says all preparations for November 30 by-elections over



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) said it has completed all necessary preparations for the upcoming November 30 by-elections for vacant posts for the House of Representatives, State Assembly and local levels.

EC’s Chief Election Commission, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said even though the elections are not a big one when it comes to the number of candidates and voters, they carry a big political meaning.

Speaking to journalists at a press meet in the capital on Wednesday, Thapaliya said the EC is committed to organizing the elections in a fair and peaceful manner.

The by-elections will be conducted in 52 places in 37 districts for the post of HoR member-1, SA member-3, chief of local level-1, chairpersons-3, vice chairperson-1 and ward chairs-43.

The voting will be conducted from 7 am to 5 pm.

According CEC Thapaliya, the EC has designated 247 polling places and 537 polling stations and voter turnout is expected to be 454,114.
