BIRGUNJ: Police have successfully rescued a teenage boy who had been abducted 10 days ago.

A fourteen-year-old boy,  son of Amjad Khan, who originally hails from Birgunj Metropolitan City-25, had been abducted on October 27 while he was heading to Birgunj from Banepa, Kavre.

The kidnappers had demanded Rs 1.2 million in ransom from Amjad from the mobile set carried by the abducted teenager.

Amjad had reported to the police about the abduction after they threatened to kill the child if he did not submit the demanded ransom.

Police advised Amjad to call the kidnappers to Birgunj to receive the amount according to the plan.

Acting on a tip-off that the kidnappers were coming to Birgunj to receive the ransom, a special police squad stealthily crept to the site and arrested the kidnapper while he was about to flee after taking the ransom.

The arrested is Kumar Das, son of Jokhkhu Das of Pokhariya Municipality-6. Police opened fire on Kumar in the course of nabbing him.

Injured Kumar is now receiving treatment at Narayani Hospital, Birgunj, said police. Meanwhile, police have seized a motorcycle, BR 22 Je 0803, a home-made pistol and five rounds of bullets. The other two involved in the kidnapping are at large.

Police said they have launched a manhunt to nab the fugitives.
