Chidambaram spends first night at Tihar jail with no facilities



NEW DELHI: India’s former minister P Chidambaram on Thursday spent his first night at the Tihar jail after the CBI court sent him to two-week judicial custody in the INX Media case.

According to jail sources, Chidambaram remained restless throughout the first night.

Chidambaram, also a Congress leader, considered a vocal critic of the Modi government, will be lodged at jail number 7 at Tihar.

This morning, Chidambaram was given tea around 6 am along with the prison menu of bread, poha, and porridge as breakfast.

He, however, did not get special facilities at the Tihar jail. He will, however, be allowed to walk outside his prison cell.

Chidambaram, 74, has been given access to media. The former minister will also have access to the prison’s library. He has been given a blanket and a pillow.

Chidambaram was jailed on Thursday. He was sent to judicial custody by the CBI court in the INX Media case. (Agencies)
