BPKIHS vice-chancellor Rajan Kumar released on bail



KATHMANDU: The Special Court on Tuesday released vice-chancellor of the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) Prof Dr. Rajan Kumar Rauniyar on a bail bond of Rs 4.8 million.

A bench comprising of Special Court Judges Baburam Regmi, Dwarikaman Joshi and Pramod Kumar Shrestha ordered the release of Rauniyar who was arrested by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) red-handed with kickback.

The court also ordered the release of Dr. Ram Hari Rauniyar on a bail bond of Rs 400,000.

Acting on a tip-off, CIAA personnel had arrested them while they were taking the bribe amount from a service-seeker. The Rauniyars were seeking commission from a service-seeker for awarding the contract in the construction of a building of the Institute.

The anti-graft body had filed as graft case demanding Rs 10.28 million fine against Rajan Kumar and Rs 800,000 fine against his nephew Ram Hari.
