9 children die as school bus falls into gorge in India



NEW DELHI: At least nine children died and 10 others were injured on Tuesday when their school bus fell into a gorge in Indian northern state Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district, local police said.

The mishap occurred at 07:30 a.m. local time in Kangsali village on Madan Negi Road in Tehri Garhwal district, said the police. The injured children of the Angel Public School were admitted in a local hospital. According to the police, they are making efforts to airlift them to Rishikesh city in the state.

A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was rushed to the spot to carry out rescue and relief work. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed his shock over the incident and directed an investigation into it.
