WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump piled pressure on China to reach a trade deal, international media reports said.

Trump vowed to hike U.S. tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods this week saying that hundreds of billions would be targeted more soon.

The comments are likely to see a major escalation in tensions between the US and China — the world’s largest economies.

Reports said China is likely to cancel this week’s trade talks in Washington in light of Trump’s comments. (Agencies)
