US urges Nepal to be positive towards Indo-Pacific Strategy



KATHMANDU: Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs Randall G. Schriver has urged the Nepal government to be positive towards the Indo-Pacific Strategy.

US Assistant Defense Secretary Schriver, who is currently on a Nepal visit, met with Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Defense Ishwor Pokharel and urged him to understand the strategy as the American cooperation policy with the South Asian countries.

In reply, Deputy Prime Minister Pokharel assured Schriver that Nepal is positive towards the strategy.

Pokharel asked America to extend assistance for the disaster management and increase humanitarian assistance for the Nepal Army during the meeting.

The meeting also touched upon the ‘state partnership program’, joint military practice and increment in the American Defense and Security cooperation, said Mukti Ram Aryal, undersecretary at the Ministry of Defense.

Nepali Ambassador to the US Dr Arjun Karki, American Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry, and officers of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the meeting.
