Border closure affects travelers

BAITADI: The closure at the Nepal-India border in Baitadi due to the election in the neighboring Pithoragarh district of Uttar Pradesh on the eve of Dashain has caused troubles for Nepali travelers.

The decision to seal the border for security reasons has caused problems for people returning to their homes for Dashain.

This has adversely affected the trans-border business activities as well, according to Devdutta Bhatta of Dashrathchand municipality-1.

Likewise, Baitadi’s Chief District Officer Anand Poudel said that the border was sealed off due to the election of district Panchayat and gram Panchayat elections in Pithoragarh.

Meanwhile, Indian devotees coming to visit various religious shrines in Baitadi have also been affected.

According to CDO Poudel, the election has been scheduled for Saturday and the border will be opened only after 5:15 pm on Sunday.
