Mexican authorities hope to avert U.S. tariffs

WASHINGTON: Mexican authorities are expected to persuade the White House in talks with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence today saying that the Mexico government would act to stem immigration, media reports have said.

The U.S. authorities have been concerned at the southern border with Mexico due to the increase in the number of families seeking asylum in the US.

Donald Trump has last week unexpectedly announced he would impose 5 percent tariffs on all imports from Mexico if Mexico took a harder line. (Agencies)
