FNJ deplores threats to journalist by Itahari mayor

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has deplored the threats of physical assault issued by the Itahari sub-metropolis Mayor Dwarika Lal Chaudhary to Itahari-based journalist Birat Anupam.

Issuing a statement today, the FNJ has expressed serious concern over the threats to journalist Anupam by Mayor Chaudhary, who had on Tuesday allegedly threatened the journalist with physical assault.

The mayor called journalist Anupam and threatened to break his nose adding that he was even ready to allocate Rs 10 million for the purpose, the FNJ has said.

The FNJ has described the incident as open interference in the principles of freedom of the press and expression as well as a mockery to the rule of law.

It has also drawn the authorities’ attention to make Mayor Chaudhary publicly apologize for his words and actions.
