KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress, main opposition party, today registered an urgent proposal of public importance at the Federal Parliament Secretariat concerning the ban on Nepali workers seeking jobs in Malaysia.

The proposal has demanded discussions to lift the ban at the earliest through diplomatic efforts to ensure Nepali’s right to job opportunities.

NC lawmaker Dila Sangraula registered the proposal which was backed by Dev Prasad Timilsina and Ram Bahadur Bista.

The proposal mentions that Nepali workers continue to be cheated financially due to the failure on the part of the concerned authorities to check and control anomalies in the process including orientation, medical checkup, and verification of demand letter.

It should be noted that a total of 821 Nepali migrant workers died in several countries, including Malaysia during the last fiscal year 2017/18.

Malaysia has currently around 500 thousand Nepali workers.
