BANGKOK: Thousands of Thais have gathered in capital Bangkok today for the royal procession of the newly crowned King Maha Vajiralongkorn, media reports said.
People have lined at the road hoping to get a glimpse of the king, who is a constitutional monarch. The king is revered as a living deity in Thailand.
Wearing yellow — the color associated with the king – have gathered along the 7 km route from the Grand Palace to three royal temples. The king will appear in public for the first time since his crowning to pay homage to the temple’s Buddha images.
The Thai government said it is expecting at least 200,000 people on the occasion. Meanwhile, the government has provided free bus services for people living outside Bangkok to come and witness the spectacle.
The coronation of the 66-year-old king takes place from Saturday to Monday. (Agencies)
