Rouhani calls for release of unarmed protesters

DUBAI: Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has called for the release of innocent and unarmed people detained during protests against gasoline price hikes.

The protests began on November 15 after the government abruptly raised fuel prices by around 300 percent, international media reports have said.

The outcry has spread to over 100 cities and towns.

Rouhani said religious and Islamic clemency should be shown and called for the release of innocent people who protested against petrol price hikes. (Agencies)
