Sunkoshi bus plunge: 14 among those 17 killed identified

KATHMANDU: The death toll in the Sunkoshi bus accident has climbed to 17, according to District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk. The identities of 14 among those killed have been identified.

The deceased identified so far are Chet Kumari Basnet, 52, of Shailungeshwari Rural Municiplaity-5, six-year-old Salina Tamang of the same Rural Municipality-4, Ranjita KC, 24, of Bhimeshwar Municipality, Chameli Shrestha, 27, of Sundari Rural Municipality-4 and Ratna Kumari Raut, 51, of Shailung Rural Municipality.

Similarly, those killed include three-month-old minor Roshan Tamang of Shailung Rural Municipality-3, Kiran Raut, 29, Kavita Raut, 20, Nikhil Khadka, 14, of Shailung-5.

Likewise, the other deceased include Dil Lama, 14 of Shailung-4, Nirmala Khadka, 32 of Shailung-3, Sajina Tamang, 5, of Kavrepalanchowk Roshi-4, Uttarmaya Tamang, 70, of Dolakha, and Maya Shrestha, 6, of Tripurasundari-4, Sindhupalchowk, confirmed DSP Madhav Kafle of District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk. The identities of three minors are yet to be ascertained.

The ill-fated bus was heading toward Kathmandu from Mudeurali of Dolakha district.

The accident occurred when a bus (Ba 2 Kha 7245) carrying more than 40 passengers veered off the road and plunged into the Sunkoshi River at Sukute in Sindhupalchowk district on Sunday afternoon.

Most of them died on the spot, police said. More than 25 have been injured in the accident, police said.

The critically injured passengers have been sent to Kathmandu while some are receiving treatment at Sindhu Sadabahar Hospital.

Nepal Police, Armed Police Force along with locals are carrying out rescue operations.
