NHRC to probe assault case against Mahara

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said its attention has been drawn toward the allegation of sexual assault against outgoing Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara that was later withdrawn.

Issuing a statement on Friday, the national human rights watchdog said it has demanded information from police on what investigation has so far been conducted on the high-profile case.

NHRC has also formed a three-member committee headed by Director to furnish a report after a thorough investigation with all the parties involved in the case.

Roshani Shahi, an employee at Parliament Secretariat had accused Mahara of raping her. However, she took back her words the next day.

Following the incident, Mahara resigned from the post.
