DUBAI: Iran said it will release seven crew members of the detained British-flagged tanker Stena Impero.
The Stena Impero was detained by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on July 19 this year in the Strait of Hormuz waterway for alleged marine violations.
The tanker was detained two weeks after Britain took control of an Iranian tanker off the territory of Gibraltar. The vessel, however, was released in August.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said that the seven, who also include Indian citizens, were allowed to leave the tanker on humanitarian grounds. He said they could leave Iran soon.
Erik Hanell, Stena Bulk’s president and chief executive said they are pleased that for seven crew members their ordeal may soon be over. (Agencies)
