FIFA unveils official 2022 World Cup emblem

KATHMANDU: The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) unveiled its logo for the 22nd FIFA World Cup, to be played in Qatar beginning in the month of November 2022.

The logo uses a traditional woolen shawl with “swooping curves” meant to represent desert dunes in the shape of the FIFA World Cup Trophy, an infinity symbol, and the number eight. Besides the total number of things the logo represents, the infinity symbol also represents the “interconnected nature” of the World Cup while the 8 is a nod to the number of stadiums that will play host to games.

A woolen shawl, traditionally worn throughout the Arab and Gulf region during the cooler months, is included in reference to the fact this tournament will be held at the end of the year, with the championship final not set to be played until December 18th.

The 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup is the first to be held in the Arab world and the first to take place in the months of November and December. The unusual start time for the tournament is due to the very high temperatures throughout the region during the year.
