KATHMANDU: A blitzing half-century by Dipendra Singh Airee went in vain as Sri Lanka U-23 defeated Nepal by six wickets in the men’s cricket of the ongoing South Asian Games (SAG) on Tuesday.
Chasing the 173-run target set by Nepal, Sri Lanka scored 175 runs on the board losing four wickets in 19.1 overs.
Shammu Ashan (not out) top-scored for Sri Lanka at 72 runs off 44 balls smashing five sixes and four fours and Nishan Madushka scored 46 runs.
Nepal’s Pawan Sarraf grabbed two wickets as Sompal Kami and Sushan Bhari took one wicket apiece.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, Nepal notched up 172 runs in the allotted 20 overs, losing five wickets.
Dipendra Singh Airee made the highest 72 runs studded with four fours and three sixes off 44 balls. Pawan Sarraf scored 22 runs for Nepal.
Kamindu Mendis took two wickets for Sri Lanka.
