Nepal Army unveils plans to promote Visit Nepal Year

KATHMANDU: Nepali Army (NA) has made public the events it is going to hold in view of promoting local tourism and Visit Nepal Year 2020.

At a program organized here by NA in presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Ishwor Pokharel, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai, high-ranking government officials and representatives from several foreign diplomatic mission in Kathmandu, it was shared that various 9 adventurous as well as tourism activities and sport competition will be held.

Marathon, paragliding, jungle safari, trekking, multinational joint military Everest expedition and the like would be organized during different times, according to the NA.

On the occasion, DPM Pokharel lauded the initiatives undertaken by NA to meet a national objective and underscored promotional events to be held abroad to attract as many as 2 million visitors to Nepal in 2020.

He expressed his confidence that Nepal could make a stride in terms of development if we could organize tourism activities in high altitudes and dense forests that a country with rich biodiversity like Nepal.

Similarly, Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa pledged the full support of NA for the realization of government goals. Stating that NA had been playing an important role in environmental conservation in Nepal, he pressed for collective effort to make VNY 2020 a success.

Likewise, Chief of General Staff Sharad Giri shed light on the host of events NA was going to organize to promote local tourism.

Lieutenant Colonel Sunil Singh Rathor and Lieutenant Colonel Ashok Khand briefed about the 90-day Everest Expedition named ‘Destination Everest’ to be organized in the spring of 2020, where military representatives from several countries would participate.
