Nepal’s FM Gyawali invites Maldivian FM for Sagarmatha Sambad

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali discussed matters of mutual interest such as trade, tourism, climate change and cooperation in the regional and global with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid in Male.

Nepal’s Foreign Minister Gyawali invited his Maldivian counterpart Shahid to visit Nepal to attend the Sagarmatha Sambad scheduled to be held in Kathmandu in April 2020.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Maldivian Minister Shahid has accepted the invitation.

Meanwhile, during the meeting, foreign ministers of both countries expressed satisfaction on the excellent state of bilateral relations and agreed to take them in newer heights.

During the meeting, Minister Gyawali mentioned about the organic linkage between mountains and oceans, and emphasized the need of greater cooperation among the mountainous countries and island states to address the challenges of climate change.

Likewise, he also thanked the Maldives for providing employment opportunities to Nepali nationals. Minister Gyawali also urged his Maldivian counterpart to encourage visits of more Maldivian tourists to Nepal in the context of Visit Nepal Year 2020.

Nepal’s Foreign Minister Gyawali reached the Maldives on Monday.
