SOLUKHUMBU: Mahakulung Rural Municipality has put a ban on the sale of junk foods in school areas of ward no 4 and 5 in the district.

The junk food ban drive was launched in the district to encourage local products, said Tara Kulung, a teacher. Locals have also appreciated the junk food ban campaign.  The decision was circulated during a gathering on the occasion of the Teej festival on Monday.

“We are united on the junk food ban campaign in order to promote locally produced organic foods. A gathering comprising women representatives, Ama Samuha (mothers group), women health volunteers have stood united against junk foods to promote organic foods,” said Kulung.

The junk food has been banned at Gudel Secondary School saying that it would hamper both mental and physical growth of the children, added Kulung.
