Rahul Gandhi demands election for party president

NEW DELHI: Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who has been adamant to his decision to quit the party top post, has demanded elections to appoint the next party chief.

Rahul said the party now needs to decide on the new party president without any delay saying that since he has already submitted his resignation. “I am not the party chief,” Rahul told reporters in the Indian capital of New Delhi today.

The Congress party has been under a leadership crisis following the Lok Sabha election disaster. Rahul also said that the new party chief should not be from the Nehru or Gandhi family.

Congress president Rahul had offered to quit from his post on May 25 after his party managed to win just 52 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election.
