MEXICO CITY: A senior Mexican delegation is set to begin high-level talks in Washington today, media reports have said.

The talks have been aimed at fighting to fend off punitive tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump last week.

US President Trump has said he would apply tariffs of 5 percent on all Mexican goods on June 10. He has also announced that he would increase the rate in coming months to 25 percent if Mexico failed to halt illegal immigration across the U.S.-Mexican border. (Agencies)
