Hepatitis ‘B’ as a growing health challenge in Upper Dolpa



UPPER DOLPA: Seventy people out of the total 343 who visited a health camp at Dolpo Buddha rural municipality in Dolpa were diagnosed with hepatitis ‘B’.

The disease has been identified as an emerging serious health challenge in Upper Dolpa as over 20 percent among those visiting the camp were found to be infected with hepatitis ‘B’ virus in their bodies.

Senior liver disease specialist at Bir Hospital Dr Sudhamshu KC has termed the situation as a challenging and serious.

He added that one among the four is likely to be found with hepatitis ‘B’ positive in Upper Dolpa warning that the situation would likely take epidemic if timely interventions were not made.

He added that cases of hepatitis ‘B’, a highly contagious disease, are high in the adjoining Tibet.

Most infected ones are from Dho village and the virus has been found among the people from Bhijer, Saldang, Phoksundo and Chharka as well.
