Autumn season climbing on Mt Everest restarts after three years



KATHMANDU: Two groups comprising ten mountaineers have taken permission to climb Mt Everest in this autumn season the first time in three years.

The climbers have sought permission to climb the Mt Everest, the world’s highest peak, in this season first time after three years, Rameshwar Niraula, a junior officer at the Department of Tourism.

Niraula informed ten climbers, including nine of a group and another alpinist, have sought permission to scale Mt Everest in the autumn season after a gap of three years.

According to him, 264 mountaineers of 27 groups have so far taken permission to climb the 8,156-meter-tall Mt Manaslu, the eighth highest peak in the world and seventh in Nepal.

Likewise, a total of 13 climbers of two groups have received permission to climb the 8,516-metre-tall Mt Lhotse.

Similarly, eight persons of a single group have taken permission to climb the 7,861-metre-tall Mt Nuptse in this autumn season.

According to Niraula, 30 climbers of two groups have acquired permission to scale the 8,267-metre-high Mt Dhawalagiri in the autumn season.

A total of 518 mountaineers, 114 women and 404 men, of 68 groups have acquired the permission to climb various summits in the country.
