Inmate killed as riot breaks out in Nakhkhu jail



KATHMANDU: A prisoner has died in a clash that erupted among inmates inside Nakhkhu jail in Lalitpur on Friday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Purna Bahadur Raji, a prisoner of Nakhkhu jail. According to Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur, the infighting broke out at around 12 noon.

“Raji died on the spot after his inmate Komal Kumar Mahato struck him with a cement block over a minor dispute”, said a jailer of Nakhkhu prison. Komal was finding lice in Raji’s head after taking breakfast this morning, according to the official. Both the inmates were serving a jail-term on murder charge.

A police team has reached the incident site and taken the assailant under control.
