Side effects of caffeine intake

Light or moderate caffeine intake provides health benefits. However, high dosages may lead to side effects and might even cause health issues. High intake isn’t necessarily better.

Below are some side effects of too much caffeine

Anxiety

Moderate doses of caffeine increase alertness. High dosages may lead to edginess or anxiety.

Insomnia

Caffeine helps you stay awake during the day. It, however, negatively impacts your sleep quality. Cutting off caffeine intake by early afternoon is a good way to avoid sleeping problems.

Digestive issues

Moderate amounts of coffee help to improve gut motility. Larger dosages can lead to loose stools. Switching to tea can be beneficial.

Muscle breakdown

High intake of coffee may develop a breakdown of damaged muscle.

Addiction

Staying without coffee for some hours can lead to psychological withdrawal symptoms in people consuming large amounts every day.

High blood pressure

Caffeine may raise blood pressure when consumed at high doses. This is, however, temporary.

Rapid heart rate

Large doses of caffeine can increase the heart rate. Reduce the intake to normalize heart rhythm.

Fatigue

Caffeine provides energy. However, it can also indirectly lead to fatigue. Therefore, go for moderate caffeine intake.

Frequent urination or urgency

Intake of high caffeine may be linked to increased urinary frequency or urgency.
