Four Nepalis detained in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 94 illegal immigrants were detained by the city police in a major crackdown spanning almost 12 hours.”197 police officers and six Immigration Department personnel were involved in the operation”, told CPO Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.

He said the operations were carried out in Setapak, Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT station, Kota Raya bus station, Jalan Chow Kit, Pasar Chow Kit, Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Jalan Sepadu Klang Lama, Sri Petaling, Jalan Alor, Lorong Merbau off Jalan Kenanga, Jalan Segambut Pusat, Jalan Ipoh, Taman Seri Kuching and Jalan Tun Razak.

“We checked 271 foreigners during the operations and arrested 94 of them, including four Nepalis, 31 Bangladeshis, 28 Myanmar nationals, 11 Indo­nesians, five Indian nationals,  three Somalians, two Pakistanis and two Nigerians,” he said in a statement.

He added that further action would be taken under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for staying in Malaysia without a valid pass or permit. “Those detained were taken to the Jinjang lockup for further action.
“These operations will continue to be carried out to curb crime involving foreign nationals here,” he said.
