LONDON: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said he does not want to be extradited to the United States to face trial, media reports said on Thursday.
The United States (US) has asked for the extradition of Assange.
Julian Assange, who was dragged from the London-based Ecuadorean Embassy on April 11, has been charged with conspiracy to commit computer intrusion.
Asked whether he agreed to be extradited to the United States during a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, he said did not wish to surrender to extradition.
On Wednesday, a British court sentenced Assange to 50 weeks in prison for skipping bail while was holed up in the Ecuador’s Embassy in London for seven years.
He had sought refuge in the Ecuador Embassy in June 2012 to avoid extradition order to Sweden over an allegation of rape. (Agencies)
