13th SAG: Teams disappointed with new football fixture

KATHMANDU: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and the Maldives have expressed their disapproval with the men’s football fixture in the 13the South Asian Games (SAG).

Speaking at the pre-match conference, the coaches claimed that the fixture is against the rule of the FIFA.

They said that players may be injured to play regularly.

Petar Segrt, the head coach of the Maldives said, “The player might be injured when played daily” and questioned against the organizer for changing the schedule after India and Pakistan walked out of the competition.

According to the earlier schedule, Nepal was placed in Group ‘A’ with Bangladesh and Bhutan while India, Maldives and Sri Lanka were placed in Group ‘B’.

Similarly, Pakir Ali, coach of Sri Lankan football team said that they are participating in the SAG with an aim to lift the title but the new fixture will hamper their team spirit.
