SIMIKOT: Kharpunath Rural Municipality is still waiting for the vote count. The vote count for the by-election held Saturday for vice-chairperson of the Rural Municipality was said to begin from 8:00 am, but it was stalled after the dispute over the vote-counting process.
The major three political parties have demanded the vote count onward basis, but office of the Chief Returning Officer denied the ward-wise count.
The meeting held for forging agreement failed to reach a conclusion. However, efforts are underway to wipe out the difference.
It is said the both NCP and Nepali Congress witnessed tough competition to get elected as Vice-Chairperson. The Rural Municipality had 85 percent voters’ turnout.
Meanwhile, the cadres of the NCP and Nepali Congress clashed at Ward No 5 of the Rural Municipality. On the voting day, locals pelted stones at the house of NCP leader Jit Bahadur Shahi, according to NCP village committee chairperson Prakash Shahi.
Later, the District Police Office, Humla, informed that the clash was tamed and the situation is normal.
