KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli who is suffering from kidney-related ailments needs to undergo dialysis twice a week.

The prime minister was admitted at the Dhapasi-based Grande Hospital on Wednesday and was discharged from the hospital on Thursday after undergoing dialysis twice.

Dialysis of the blood is a process to remove toxic substances or metabolic wastes from the bloodstream used in the case of kidney failure.

Although the hospital in a press meet refused to divulge details on the health condition of the prime minister, sources said that PM Oli needs to undergo dialysis at least twice a week as his kidney has stopped functioning.

PM Oli had undergone plasmapheresis at the Singapore-based National University Hospital. Plasmapheresis is a process in which unhealthy plasma is taken out and fresh plasma is transfused into the patient.

It should be recalled that PM Oli was admitted to the National University Hospital in August.

He had on August 12 returned from Singapore after his health check-up in the hospital. He had gone back for further treatment to the same hospital on August 22.

PM Oli had undergone a kidney transplant surgery some 12 years ago.
