KATHMANDU: Kathmandu District Court has started recording statements of raped-accused outgoing House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Friday.
A single bench of Judge Sudharshan Raj Pandey is recording statements of Mahara, Gyan Bahadur Karki, information officer at Kathmandu District Court, told Khabarhub.
The process of the bail hearing will begin once the recording of the statements of Mahara is over.
Following the bail hearing, the court will determine whether or not to allow Mahara to post bail and be released from jail for the duration of his or her trial.
A rape case yesterday was filed at Kathmandu District Court against Mahara demanding seven and a half years imprisonment. However, the hearing could not take place due to lack of time and preparation.
The District Attorney Office, Kathmandu filed a case demanding a maximum of five years in jail for rape and an additional two and a half years imprisonment for being involved in crime while being seated at a high-ranking post.
Mahara was arrested from his official residence in Baluwatar on October 6 after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him for allegedly raping Roshani Shahi, a female employee at Parliament Secretariat.
