Landslide in Lokanthali puts 6 houses at risk



BHAKTAPUR: Landslip has taken place in ward no. 1 of Madhyapurthimi Municipality on Sunday morning risking six houses.

The landslide occurred due to construction work for a drinking water project.

The landslide had occurred on August 20 night when a reservoir was being constructed in order to address the problems of drinking water in ward nos. 1 2 and 3 of the municipality. This led to some preventive measures but did not stop mud from sinking down.

Around 40 meters of a blacktopped road nearby has submerged while the houses of Laxman Prasad Poudel, Prem Bahadur Tamang, Santosh Tamang, Bharat Poudel, Krishna Bahadur Thapa, Mukunda Sapkota and Kailash Neupane have come under the risk of a landslide. As a result, the houses have been emptied, according to ward no. 1 chair Suraj Khadka.

A water tank with a capacity to hold 500,000 liters of water was being constructed in the steep public land at the cost of Rs. 13.2 million.
