70 dengue cases found in Dharan

DHARAN: As many as 70 patients have been diagnosed with Dengue in Dharan Sub Metropolitan City. They have been undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and Bijayapur Hospital.

According to Professor Dr Gauri Shankar Sah, Director of the Institute, 60 among 114 patients who underwent blood test have been have diagnosed with Dengue. Virus of dengue is spread by female mosquitoes.

Four dengue cases had been found a year ago.  All the Daran denizens and medical persons have been kept in high alert fight the outbreak, said acting Chief District Officer of Sunsari District Dhruba Bahadur Khadka.

According to Sah, a dengue patient shows symptoms of nausea, vomiting, swollen liver, high fever, skin rash, muscle and joint pain, etc.

An estimated 390 million dengue infections occur worldwide each year, with about 96 million resulting in illness.
