Karnali Pradesh seeks approval to mobilize Nepal Army



KATHMANDU: Karnali Pradesh government has asked for permission from the federal government to mobilize Nepal Army for quarantine management and rescue of the Nepali people stranded along Nepal-India border.

Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Bimala KC, who is also the spokesperson of the government, informed that the permission has been sought from the federal government to mobilize the Nepal Army for the rescue of the Nepali people hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

“A large number of Nepali people have been stranded after losing their jobs in India due to COVID-19. They are desperately awaiting to come back home,” said KC, adding, “We have asked the  government for its permission to mobilize Nepal Army since  Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are busy with security and other related jobs.”

With the resumption of railway service, the locals of Karnali Pradesh have started returning home. It is estimated that around 100,000 people are returning home from India

The Pradesh government took a decision to this effect in line with the suggestion given by the meeting of the Pradesh Disaster Management Committee held three days ago.
