KATHMANDU: Lalitpur’s Imadole-based KIST Hospital has been sealed off after a patient who  died here in the course of treatment tested positive for the coronavirus.

Doctors and nurses who were involved in the treatment of the deceased have been sent to quarantine.

After a 57 year old man of Bhaisepati admitted to the MICU of the hospital died due to coronavirus pandemic, the hospital has maintained high alert considering the health risks of the patients, medics and the visitors.

He had been admitted to the hospital on May 25 after he complained of liver issue, according to  Dr Khageswor Gelal, a senior Health Administrator at the District Health Office, Lalitpur.  He was brought to the hospital with complaints of ‘alcoholic liver disease’.

“His swab was taken to the National Public Health Laboratory for test where he had tested positive for the coronavirus,” Gelal said.

Prior to this, he was undergoing treatment at the Patan Hospital from where he was taken to KIST as his health deteriorated.

According to the hospital sources, the deceased had liver related complications before he was diagnosed with coronavirus.

The hospital said as many as 20 medics involved in his treatment are taken to quarantine after the COVID-19 positive result.
