Trump offers to mediate border dispute between India and China

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to mediate the border issue between India and China.

His offer comes amid stand-off between the Indian and Chinese troops in some disputed areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh.

US President Trump tweeted: “We have informed both India and China that the United States is ready, willing and able to mediate or arbitrate their now raging border dispute. Thank you!”

It should be noted that Indian has increased its army in Pangong Tso and Galwan Valley — the two contested areas where China, too, has deployed troops.

China had on Wednesday said that the situation along the India-China border is overall stable and controllable.

It said both China and India have proper communication channels and mechanisms to resolve the issue through dialogue.
