COVID-19 could infect 5,000 persons in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Health Officials of Nepal have predicted that COVID-19 could infect 5000 persons in Nepal. As per their predictions, they have started procuring health materials required to fight against the virus.

Officials have called the bid to supply the health materials like testing kits, PPEs, masks, gloves and others needed for the frontline health workers, BBC Nepali reported.

Highly-placed source said Nepal has now stock of test kits that will limit to 50,000 samples only.
Earlier, Nepal has brought testing kits predicting that only 1,500 could be infected in the country.

Nepal reported 90 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. With this, the number of coronavirus positive cases have reached 772 and has spread to 46 districts out of 77.

Most of the new COVID-19 cases have been found among the Indian returnees. After the large number of people coming from India on an every day basis, Bhogendra Raj Dotel, Director at Management Division under the Heath Service Department said government has started process of procurement of health materials.

According to Dotel, the government has called the bid for the testing kit in the first phase, according to BBC Nepali. The government is procuring 2,50,000 VTMs and 1,75,000 PCR kits.
