Nepal’s COVID-19 tally hits 682 with seven new cases



KATHMANDU: A total of seven fresh coronavirus cases including a death have been confirmed on Monday afternoon taking the tally to 682, the Ministry of Health and Population said.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Spokesperson Dr. Bikash Devkota said that new cases have been confirmed in Achham, Bardiya, Parsa and Bara districts.

An elderly who passed away in the course of treatment at National Medical College, Birgunj has been diagnosed with the Coronavirus, taking  the death tally to four in Nepal.

A 70-year-old person was diagnosed with novel virus after his report came out to be positive eight days after his death. He has been identified as the resident of Kalaiya Sub Metropolitan City-7.

The septuagenarian, who had been admitted to the hospital on May 15 after he complained of respiratory problems, had died on May 17.

His swab specimen report tested at National Public Health Laboratory, Kathmandu came out to be positive, confirmed Spokesperson Devkota. The swab specimen result came out today, eight days after the death of the eldderly.

In a height of negligence,  the dead body of the elderly had been handed over to the family.

Accepting the fact, Assistant CDO said an investigation into the case has been initiated.

Likewise, 112 persons have recovered and discharged.

The remaining patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals nationwide.

Nepal has performed 51,642 sample tests through the PCR method so far.

Similarly, 2,904 sample tests have been performed through the PCR method and 5,166 samples test performed though the RDT method in the last 24 hours, the ministry said.

Spokesperson Dr. Devkota added that presently altogether 46, 029 people are in quarantines in the country.

A total of 24 persons have been discharged across the country recently, he said, adding 112 people have been discharged so far.

Likewise, 46029 persons have been staying in quarantine. In the Province 5, Sudurpachim, Karnali province respectively have large number of people living in quarantine.

Earlier in the morning, 72 new coronavirus cases were reported.
