Nepal records new COVID-19 death

KATHMANDU: A 41-year-old man has died from Coronavirus on Thursday morning taking the death tally to three in Nepal.

According to Chintamani Paudel, Chairman of Crimson Hospital, a coronavirus patient who was undergoing treatment at Manigram in Rupandehi succumbed to the novel virus at 7:10 am today.

The deceased, a 41-year-old man from Madane of Gulmi district, was admitted to the hospital on May 14 after complaining of difficulty in breathing.

His swab was tested at Province Laboratory, Butwal which confirmed him as COVID-19 positive.

According to hospital sources, the patient was suffering from other health issues, such as jaundice and pneumonia.

Likewise, the State 5 Ministry of Social Development confirmed the third COVID-19 fatality by issuing a press statement today.

“Cremation of the deceased will be conducted in line with the guidelines issued by the government, in coordination with local government, concerned authorities, and security workers,” added Dr Chaudhary.

He had tested COVID-19 positive on May 18.

Meanwhile, the people in Madane informed that the victim had visited different places and attended the marriage program as well despite lockdown order.

Information officer at Madane Rural Municipality, Rishi Pokhrel, said the victim had attended a marriage ceremony at Malika Rural Municipality on April 16 and also visited Dhurkot Rural Municipality on May 2.

On May 10, he visited a polyclinic at Purkot the other day as he witnessed fever and headache. He took rest for two days taking medicine from the polyclinic.

Two days later, his blood was tested which showed jaundice at Chhaya Polyclinic at Sandhikharaka of Arghakhanchi, said polyclinic proprietor, Bishnu Bhushal.

As he did not see relief he was taken to Crimson Hospital at Tilottama in Rupandehi.

Meanwhile, Minister for Social Development in State-5, Sudarshan Baral, expressed sorrow over the death of COVID-19 infected person from Madane of Gulmi during the treatment.

In a condolence message, Minister Baral said all attempts taken to save the life of coronavirus infected went in vain, paying tribute to the deceased one.

Saying the death of a school principal has caused an irreparable loss in the education sector, the Minister extended condolences to the bereaved family members.

With this, the COVID-19 death toll in Nepal has reached three. However, the Ministry of Health and Population is yet to provide official information about it.

He was a teacher at a local school in Gulmi. According to hospital sources, he also did not have any recent travel history.

Earlier, a new mother in Sindhupalchowk and a youth from Banke were confirmed to have died from coronavirus on May 16 and 17 respectively in Nepal.
