COVID-19 cases climb to 402 in Nepal with 27 news cases

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has confirmed 27 new coronavirus cases in Nepal taking the tally to 402 on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Dr. Bikash Devokta informed 24 of them are male and 3 are female.

According to him, 9 people from Jhapa, 4 from Kapilvastu, 1 from Morang, 1 from Sunsari, 3 from Kathmandu, 1 from Makawanpur, 1 from Ramechhap, 1 from Lalitpur, and 1 from Nawalparasi have tested positive for coronavirus.

With this, the number of coronavirus-infected people in the country has reached 402 out of which 37 have recovered.

According to Devkota, Out of 27 new cases, 24 are men while 3 are women.

Similarly, 2280 samples were tested through the PCR method in the last 24 hours taking the tally to 32604.

Meanwhile, 447 people are in Isolation. Out of them, 2 persons died in isolation.

Likewise, the Ministry has decided to send a team of 10 health workers including doctors each in Province 2 and Province 5.

According to the latest record, 136 cases have been reported in Province 2 while 176 cases found in Province 5.

Two persons have died so far in Nepal.

According to Dr Devkota, a 42-year-old person has been discharged from Biratnagar Hospital after recovery.

Meanwhile, with as many as 93 cases, Banke is the worst-hit district, as of Tuesday, in Nepal that has been whacked by the coronavirus pandemic.

The district has been declared a red zone and relaxation seems distant.

As of May 19, Nepal has recorded a total of 406 coronaviruses confirmed cases with Banke and Parsa as the worst-hit districts.

Banke district has reported 91 cases, while Kapilvastu has 46 cases.

Likewise, Udaypur, considered a hotbed, has 33 cases so far with 28 cases in Rupandehi district, according to the Ministry of Health.

Likewise, Rautahat has 22 cases while seven cases each have been detected in Kathmandu and Dhanusa.

Kailali, Dang and Bara have reported four cases each, with three cases each from Chitwan, Sarlahi, Morang, Dhading and Mahottari. Baglung, Bardiya and Bhaktapur have reported two cases each. Jhapa, meanwhile, has 12 cases, while Sunsari has 3.

Similarly, Gulmi, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Saptari, Siraha, Kanchanpur, Nawalparasi (West), Nawalparasi (East), Kavre, Sindhupalchok and Makwanpur have reported one Covid-19 case each.

According to the ministry, 37 patients have been discharged after recovery. However, three patients have been readmitted in the isolation facilities after they tested positive in retests.
