KATHMANDU: The Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) has said that construction work affected by COVID-19 outbreak could not resume until mid-November.
It would be difficult to resume construction work in the present situation, read a statement issued by the Federation General Secretary Roshan Dahal.
The Federation has also urged the government to make arrangements for extending contract date for all construction work between the Nepali month of Kartik, 2076 and Kartik, 2077 itself affected by the infection.
Despite the lockdown, contractors did their best to supply resources and construction materials to some construction sites, read the statement, adding that it would be hard to continue the supply due to transportation difficulty.
The Federation stressed the need for the government to device clear policies alongside a clear and effective coordination between the state mechanism for the continuation of construction work.
Workers, who have gone to their house and engaged in agriculture and other works following the infection outbreaks, cannot return to job before upcoming festivals, Dashain, Tihar and Chhath, said the statement.
Construction work cannot take place until there is an environment conducive created for the import of construction materials from India and China, the Federation concluded.
