Madhyapurthimi to shut down shops, roads

BHAKTAPUR: The Madhyapurthimi municipality is to close all roads except two main roads adopting high alertness after two people tested positive to coronavirus in Bhaktapur.

An emergency meeting of municipality has decided to strictly implement the lockdown and completely close the roads and shops.

Mayor Madan Sundar Shrestha shared that the meeting decided to close all roads except Araniko highway and road towards Bhaktapur via Pepsicola and Sanothimi.

“All vehicles except essential service including ambulance, fire engine, drinking water, and foodstuffs will be completely closed. The entry of new people into Madhyapurthimi has been restricted”, he added.

Shrestha shared, “We are in a difficult situation. We have to bear a big loss due to a small negligence. Landlords owners will face action if they allow people from outside without a certificate of negative for coronavirus.

Shops of daily essentials like vegetables, medicine, gas, and drinking water would be opened till 9:00 am. The municipality is to depute 125 volunteers along with police to strictly implement the lockdown.

The municipality took the decision after police sealed 20 houses of Shankhadhar chowk after a 25-year-old woman tested positive for coronavirus at Shankhadhar chowk of the municipality.

A policeman of Armed Police Force of Changunarayan municipality-1, Duwakot, has also tested positive for coronavirus and he is undergoing treatment at Teku Hospital. Family members of the policeman have been sent to Teku for a test.

Coronavirus test is being carried out of the locals of the sealed areas of Shankhadhar chowk at Bhaktapur hospital.
