Nepal reports 57 more COVID-19 cases, tally jumps to 191

KATHMANDU: Nepal has recorded 57 more COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. With this, the number of coronavirus cases in the country has reached 191 on Tuesday.

The infected are all male, including 8 from Kapilvastu, 9 from Rupandehi, 39 from Parsa, and 1 from Bara districts, according to joint-spokesperson of Ministry of Health and Population Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari.

The test was confirmed in the National Public Health Laboratory in the capital.

Their health condition is normal, and they have come into contact with health workers, according to Dr Adhikari.

It should be noted that Nepal had recorded 24 cases in a single day on Monday.

According to Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Bikash Devkota, some 17,809 samples have been tested by PCR and 58,546 using the RDT method so far.

Spokesperson Dr. Devkota informed that 2,799 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours.

The ministry said currently around 12,701 people are in quarantine and 153 in isolation in the country.

While a total of 33 have been recovered, the number of infected has reached 191 as of Tuesday .

Meanwhile, the government has mobilized Nepal Army health teams to different Provinces with over 5,000 test-kits to collect the nasal and throat swabs of the suspected ones.

The health teams equipped with necessary medical appliances have been sent to Province-1, Province-2, Gandaki Province, and Province-5 on Friday. The COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre at Nepal Army’s Chhauni Barrack coordinated for it.

The team comprises trained persons from Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the one from the Ministry of Health.

The swabs would be collected from Udayapur, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Nawalparasi Purba, Nawalparasi Paschim, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi, Gulmi, Kapilvastu, Pyuthan, Dang, Banke and Bardiya, the places at high risk of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, a total of 100,000 RDT testing kits have arrived in Kathmandu on Monday procured by the Department of Health Services through the BIDH Management company. It was brought from China on a Himalayan Airlines aircraft.
